VHS to .MOV - HOUSTON

Anyone know where I can get some VHS tapes transferred to a high quality .MOV file in HOUSTON? I am doing a documentary (in FCP) and I have some old footage on VHS a need to work with.

Thanks.

Just a suggestion, you could probably buy a decent dv converter (Grass Valley, for example) for what a service would cost...have often logged into FCP from a VHS player using a Grass Valley advc 300 converter. They make a variety of price ranges, here is one: Videoguys.com - Grass Valley ADVC110 Media Converter /Battle Vaughan

An ADAC as suggested above is probably your best value for money. Alternatively, if you've got a DV deck - just hook up the VHS player to the DV deck and make sure DV EE Playback (End to End) is on, and capture into Final Cut as an Non Controllable Device.

If you are looking at capturing to a better intermediate codec than DV, you'll need to go somewhere that will capture via either a capture card (into Pro Res or a similiar format) or IO box like AJA IO or Black Magic MXO II

Thanks for the info guys. I don't really want to buy anything cause I will probably never use it, and I do not have a DV deck. I wish I still had my XL1s, I think I could have used it like a deck. Does the XH A1 work like this?

It's really tough finding a professional place in Houston to do this. Half the people I call don't even know what Pro Res is.

XHa1 doesn't play vhs tapes, of course. There may be a way to use the vtr function to record sd into the camera then play it out to your FCP if you have a vhs deck to feed the camera input. Don't know what video conversion places Houston offers, but there are any number of consumer places that will put your vhs on a dvd, for example. Could easily convert from that in mpegStreamclip.

Also, I googled around and found this pro place pretty easily, Houston Audio, Video, 8mm 16mm film Transfer Restoration and Conversion Production Company, Spring, The Woodlands, Kingwood,. Know absolutly nothing about them but if you look for houston and video conversion, you might find something. Best wishes! /BVaughan
