tripod support solution
 

I am filming birds on a tripod which has a Wimberley (Wimberley Professional Photo Gear - The Wimberley Head) attached. The Wimberley carries a 800 mm Sigma and my 550d. I want to be able to attach a camcorder somehow to the wimberley (or the tripod), that would take wider images while the 550d does close-ups. So far I found 2 potential solutions:

But I am not sure that the first item really works and is made for this purpose. The second is not preferable because the camcorder will not move along with the 550d to the same direction.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

the bar at the price of 100 pounds is a bit much. You could make one out of a piece of aluminum for less than ten pounds!!!

Those are many possibilities. Thanks for that, but I do not see anything really usefull. I will have to adapt the wimberley, which wouldn't be such a deal if I could get the right screws here in Hungary. Any shop I go they tell me no no no. It is some kind of american thread.
Would any of you know a place (shop, internet shop) where I can get this screws with the american thread.

Reckon you have a couple of options:

If you're trying to find a match for screws used in the Wimberley, ask them for replacements.

Else, if either of the above links lets you identify just what it is you need, ask one of the kind souls here on DVinfo to source some for you and mail 'em over.

I had an event to shoot solo and wanted to use both my T2i and HMC 150. Didn't feel like leaving a stationary camera in a crowd of 1500 people so I used two pieces of aluminum rectangle tubing bolted in an "L". tripod QR on the bottom and two QR plates on top.

originally it was to hold my 150 and my SmallHD DP1 but it works great for a two camera like your'e describing. If you don't need the QR plates, the materials were about $50. in the picture the bottom QR plate isn't there but it goes right below the 150.



There's also a mount that I bought for something else that may serve your needs called the "video caddy" very heavy duty and holds either camera or the monitor without budging. works great clamped onto a leg of the tripod.

It is about the 2 bolts used in the tilt head (there is a round indentation with two bolts) That size bolts I would need but then app. 0.4 inch (10 mm) longer. From the table on Wiki, I guess it is UNC 24 threads per inch, and 0.1900 inch (4.8260 mm) major diameter, but I am not sure. I don't know about the Tap Drill Size. I don't know what it is. Does this mean anything to you or to your hardware store on the corner?

I think I found the right screws:

Machine screws, Phillips pan head, Stainless steel 18-8

If one of you guys could somehow order/buy 4 and send them to me, I would be most greatfull. Choose screws from 1 inch long!
Please let me know how to compensate for this!

It really wasn't an offer on my part, much as I'd like to oblige.

Unfortunately, I live in Metric land as well (and Internationally, about as far from anywhere as it's possible to get, with the exception of Antartica!) and would find sourcing these screws even more impossible than you.

I think, rather, I "volunteered" one of our esteemed US or Canadian members.

I'm sure one will step up to the plate and do the necessary.

It looks like an interesting head, so thanks for that. I note that in the instructions there are screws that should not be tampered with.
Many of the American UNC threads are very close to BSW (British Standard Whitworth) and are often used interchangeably. For example 3/16" BSW or (3/16 W for short) is 24 TPI and 0.187" inches in diameter. There is a difference in thread angle but otherwise very close to 10-24.
Are BSW threads more available to you?

It seems that I am going to get some screws from the Wimberleys themselves. They had some 1 inch spare screws. So for the time being no action needs to be undertaken.
