SD Card Limitations

Wasn't sure if this should go in the Panasonic forum or not...

Have an older PV-GS70 that the kids are now using but for some reason it will only record for 2 minutes straight to the 2GB SD card. Of course, the file size is way smaller than the card capacity...

Anyone have any ideas why it only records for 2 minutes before stopping? The manual/documentation has nothing to offer on this problem so I turn to the members of this forum who have so much experience and knowledge to share.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Is it a Class 6 card or faster? Some recommend a Class 10 card for the Sony EX1.

Hi Tim.............

First question:

When the camera stops after 2 minutes, when you hit record again, does it record another 2 minutes, or is that first 2 minutes as much as it will put on the card?

That will give us something to go on.

Never mind............

Think I've cracked it.

Manual here:

Check out page 56: Recording moving Pictures.

2 minutes is your lot at Superfine or Fine. For more time you need to switch down to Normal.

Looks like our culprit but I'll let the jury decide.

Chris, thank you very much; somehow we missed this piece of information in the manual but the change to "normal" has indeed fixed the problem. Not sure why this limitation exists if we are recording directly to the card, but if we are not it may have something to do with internal buffering or something.

Thanks again to you (and Dean) for taking the time to respond.
