xm,xl 16:9

well i've got a short question
do you have the same quality in a xm 16:9 mode as a xl camera in 16:9 mode. Do they work the same way by cropping of that kind of thing. If there would be a difference, how do the two reach there 16:9 mode.

appreciate the answers

greets and kisses

What are you referring to as "xm" and "xl" cameras? Not familiar with those terms.

ow sorry forgot :-)
I mean the canon minidv cams series
canon xm(gl in the u.s)
canon xl series(xl1s and xl2)

The 16/9 mode of the XM2 or XM1 will give you the same results as the results of a 16/9 XL1 or XL1s.
(Well, it's the same principle: fake widescreen, cropping)

Only the XL2 gives you true 16/9.

With the XL2 you don't loose resolution with shooting in 16/9, with the XL1s and XL1 and XM-series you do.
With the XL2 you even have bigger resolution if you shoot with 16/9 because of the oversized chips, but you can check this article about it on dvinfo:
