Stabilizers for HMC40

I am a "newbie" to pro video. Right now I have a HMC40, which is a fantastic camera. Normally I shoot with a tripod. Lately I have tried doing more on-location "on the move" segments but I need some way to stabilize the camera. Plus I usually mount a light and wireless receiver. I also have a 7" monitor when I am using the tripod but don't need it when "on the move".
Not sure whether to try something like a Glidecam or some kind of shoulder mount like Varizoom DVTravler. Also I have looked at the Frezzolini Stable-Cam. What suggestions do you have for me? Total weight on the rig would probably be 3-4 pounds with camera, lighting and mic.

This might do the trick, the only drawback might be I understand they make a slight hum, check that out first. They certainly stabilize the cam, watch the videos.
Cheers.

Hey Allan

For me the hum wouldn't be the major drawback!! The price would !!!! $10,000 !!!!!!! OUCH!!!

Randy, I use 2 HMC72's (that's the PAL versions of the HMC70) I use them mainly because I do not have the ability to handhold a tiny camera...with a shoulder mount I can get decent handheld shots so MY advice (which also costs a lot less) would be to get a shoulder-mount rig and mount the HMC40 on it.

There are tons on the market and you are bound to find one that suits you....with a rig you can get pretty nice handhelds without having to resort to a Steadicam and a Vest...even with a little HMC40 you WILL need a vest so that's all expensive!!

I would initially go for a simple rig so you can have the 40 on your shoulder

Thanks

Thanks Chris! That is what I am going to do. Getting the Redrock shouldermount rig. Some day I hope to have a two cameras, one being a shoulder mount type. Maybe the new HMC80. But for now, the Redrock for the HMC40.

Take a look at DVtec products like the multirig as well. Shoulder mount/handles are great, but only as long as you can support the weight - a waist belt and support pod helps if you're shooting for any length of time!
