HDV Tape Transfer Preserves Ubit?

Can you preserve user information of an HDV/DVtape when you dub it to a new one (via firewire)?
Say, I want to 'fix' broken timecode before capturing to NLE. Can I still do a scene extraction on that new tape?

Thank you.
