Cheap Camcorders in Australia?

I am going to Australia ( Melbourne) for a holiday later this year.
On my way home I will be stopping in Singapore for a day.
Does anyone know where I could purchase a Camcorder at a good price and what are the pitfalls regarding bringing it back into the U.K. ( import duties Etc.)

Thanks in advance,
David

Hi David
It all depends what sort of camcorder that you want to buy. If you have time and you want semi pro then get in touch with a company called Expandore. They have good deals in US dollars and are great to deal with. They have a web site, just Google Expandore Singapore. Get in contact with them before you go and they will tell you were to find them, you never know, spend enough money and they may come and get you from your hotel. Make sure that you have international warranty on what you buy as some companies eg Canon only give 90 days if bought outside the country of your origin.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply, I will check that shop out.
I was told there are duty free shops in Melbourne selling Camcorders at reduced prices if you produce your fight ticket and passport, Do you know how these compare to the prices ih Singapore.
I was thinking of buying a Canon XL2.

Cheers,
David

Hi David
I'm not from Melbourne so I'm not sure about the photographic shops there. Some specialty shops in Australia do sell duty free but whether they would stock an XL2 and if it was lots cheaper is another story. Some people that I work with just bought an XL2 for around $7500 Aus, so I guess if you nocked of about 10% duty that would roughly give you the price. I think the XL2 in Singapore was around $3800US.
