LANC extension

Hello, has anyone extended a LANC controller? I am wondering if anyone knows the tolerance (how many feet) a controller can be extended from the camera. The camera is the CanonXF105 and the LANC is over TRS (mini jack). Thanks for any help, Jason

Re: LANC extension

I've got some LANC extension cables I used with Viosport "smart" record buttons. They are at least 25' long and worked perfectly.

I've seen 100' cables available so I expect it to be a pretty robust signal.

Small point, but the LANC TRS jack connection is a 2.5mm (subminiature) size, not the miniature (3.5mm) size. Just in case you get the wrong cable.

There are LANC extension cables for sale at least 25 feet long. I use one that I believe is 15 feet on my crane.

Re: LANC extension

The longest extension that I am aware of is 100 metres, with a home-made extension cable using reasonable screened twisted pair microphone type cable.
it was needed for remote triggering of a TRV900E with a RM95 controller, to shoot* cheetahs exercising at a refuge in Namibia. It takes them just over 3 seconds to cover that distance so the remote control made it possible for one person to control the take.

p.s. shoot as in take video of course! ;¬}
