When I price a job if it gets to 4 hours or more, I charge my 1/2 day rate plus my post production time, tape stock (if using them). After I figure the hours and money, I add 10%. If you don't you'll find when the job bites you, you have little or no margin. Plus I can always lower my price by up tp that 10% if needed but once you give them a number you can't raise it unless something changes, IE the number of hours, the number of tapes (again if using them) even if using solid state (cards) I still charge for "tape stock" every 1 hour is equal to 1 tape. My corporate clients expect it.

AAMOF I'm pricing out a job right now. I wrote the concept the client seems to be ready to OK it, then the pricing.I'm writing the script, have a pro doing the VO, music (royality free that I have to buy) 1 actress, my time to set up 2 locations (which I doubt will be done in 1 day probably over 2), shoot, edit, author, burn. Lots of time figuring as amny variables as possible so I can get the number as close as possible to real the first time out.

Pricing can take some time but do it right so you never have to feel like you screwed anyone or got screwed in the process. Do a service agreement spelling everything out so there's no he said/she said later and specify everything you're going to do, how long it's going to take to do it, what they get for a finished product and when they will get it. It's called CYA!
