Converting SD footage without dropped frames

Hello.

I want to transfer all of my old 8mm tapes over to my PC, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the Canopus ADVC-700. It's a discontinued unit, and is quite pricey, but seems to be the best solution for avoiding dropped frames during conversion. Blackmagic has a number of solutions has well, but i'm worried they won't be able to avoid dropping frames.

I've tried some cheaper products from Pinnacle, but i'm not happy with the results. Is there anything else in the $1500-$2000 range that works well?

Thanks.

Craig

Best solution is to find a Sony D8 camcorder and that will convert and transfer over DV. Dropped frames are usually a PC issue of not fast enough hardware. I used a D8 to transfer all my Hi8 without a problem.
