What should I charge?

I do part time Wedding video and work part time for a school bus company. I did a video of a safety meeting for them. Total time is 1.5hrs. No editing envolved just straight to DVD. I am also required to attend these meetings. They pay us for attending. My question is should I ask to be payed for attending the meeting and payed for video taping it also?
Any input is appreciated. Thank You
Harry

Re: What should I charge?

Harry,

This seems like something that should have been worked out beforehand. Did they think you are doing the videotaping gratis or are they expecting a charge?

You bring up a good point about being paid to be at the meeting. Since it is a meeting you were going to have to be at anyway maybe you should just charge something for the effort of setting up the equipment, equipment wear and tear, and the time spent copying to a DVD.

You probably have a better idea than anybody what the company can or will spend for this kind of thing. If you price it reasonably they may use you for more situations like this which would be great since you have to be there anyway.

The closest client we have to this situation is a Hospital / University that we use one camera to videotape monthly lectures by Doctors. We provide lighting and wireless microphones in addition to the one camera and then edit the lecture to incorporate a power point presentation. We charge $500 for this but that includes 40 minutes of travel each way and probably 4-5 hours of editing and post production.

Since you are already an employee, maybe the company would pay your overtime rate for the time spent editing and an additional $X for use of the equipment.
