Best DSLR or Camcorder for stargazing

What do you guys recommend for doing stargazing time-lapse? I have had the Canon XHA1. How does that compare to the dslr cameras for doing stargazing time-lapse.

The Canon EOS 60Da is specifically designed for astrophotography.

If I wanted to spend the extra money for the 5d mark iii am I going to get a better result? Keep in mind the only purpose for me using the camera is for timelapse video and stargazing timelapse.

most people who really want to have nice pictures of sky uses a hires webcam cooled with nitrogen or peltier module.
getting huge resolution from DSLR is pretty useless if it ends up into a video.
with timlapse and correct exposure you can aslo get decent output.

The 5d won't be better than the 60a. I've used the 20a and can say that the images are much better from the "a" version.

The most cost effective thing to do is buy a slightly older generation canon dslr and have it modified for astrophotography. The modification makes it less suitable for normal photography. You can overcome that by buying a screw on IR filter.

Give this page a read. It has some good info regarding cameras and shooting star photos - Comparing Canon DSLRs for Astrophotography

Now that is cool.

I would tend to agree with Giroud, as it is the quality of the glass in the telescope lens that is ultimately going to control the picture quality. A good quality webcam or compact is going to be much easier to mount and work with in my opinion.

The other thing I want to use the camera for is to do timelapse shots during the Arizona monsoon. How does the great color quality compare from the mark iii to the 6da? From what I seen online it looks like mark iii when it comes to colors. But I would like your guys opinion on it as well.
