Zoom control for DSLR's mounted high on tripod.

We do a lot of ethnic weddings that require a high mounted camera ( during dances) on a tripod. Presently we use the big ENG type XDcam cameras ( 8 of them) by Sony and have the zoom control via cable to the "motorcycle handle bars". We will be changing the system to Sony A7s cameras soon and require a way to control the zoom much the same way as we have now. The distance from the camera to the zoom control is only about 5 feet distance. We cannot lower the camera each time we need a different focal length. A LANC terminal on the camera end would have been ideal but is not provided any more. Any options ?
Thanks !
