Portable Power Sources

Hello everyone,

First time post here as I'm not really a videographer per se. I work with live video mixing and projection mainly and I wanted to see if there were a way to take the show out into the woods. Basically I need to find a way to power a projector (and maybe a laptop) out in the wilds and I want to be as silent as possible.

Since I have NO experience whatsoever with this, a friend suggested this would be a good place to ask.

So, the basic question, are any of you aware of portable power solutions that are very quiet (and preferably not too expensive)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kevin

Honda makes their EU series of generators that are very quiet (bring some long power cables), and make very clean power, best in class so far as I know.

Of course they cost more than other generators, really a premium product, but you really do get some important features with them.

There are a lot of knock-offs, I really don't know how well the cheaper alternatives compare. Maybe someone with experience will chime in here.

Another way to deal with cost: Rent!

I'm not sure how long you need power for, but I've caniballized a cheap uninterruptible power supply to act like a battery pack in the field that has AC outlets. All you need to do is rip out the buzzer that beeps when it senses an "outtage."

They make some pretty big ones for less than $100. Should last a while depending on the draw of your projector. Just an idea.
