Does anyone use dashcam footage...

for anything other than catching the odd, on-the-street shot? I have a dashcam that runs whenever the car runs.

Just curious.

Here's one I captured recently:

Television news crews have the dash-cams in their station vehicles. Handy for capturing anything that might be happening as you arrive at a scene (and can't get the news camera out fast enough to catch it).

It came in very handy for a story some years ago where the news vehicle in Australia was stolen and driven directly in to a petrol station and the LPG tanks. You just couldn't get that footage any other way.

Depends...
I have a DOD dashcam and the footage sucks......big time.
It's usable but not for a serious production.
Maybe some other dashcam with a higher quality output....
But I can't find that

I use a Garmin Dashcam 20...

Camera sensor
3 MP, 0.33 in. CMOS
Frame rate
30 FPS
Maximum video resolution
1080p (1920 × 1080)
Video format
AVI (H.264 compression)

I sent a clip to our local transit company last Fall when one of their buses crossed right of center and almost side swiped me. License plate and bus number showed up clearly as well as the wheels across the lines.

I've noticed the video juddering in footage form dash cams. Does anyone have a way of getting the footage in to an editing timeline cleanly?

This is my best video.......quality wise.

A lot better quality. No tearing but a bit of jello (which is understandable).

Yep

ALL of my cars have at least one dash cam.

My Land Cruiser has multiple cameras that run 24/7 (even when parked)

With all the crazy drivers out there, I pretty much upload a new video every other day

I also have a bit of fun with them too lol
