How to Capture a Computer Monitor Feed

New to this sort of thing.......what's the best way to capture a live feed of a someone demonstrating on a computer how to use software.......some sort of screen capture?

Helping a company create some training videos and need some screen capture of it.

Thanks!

On a Mac, I use Quicktime screen record. I've also done a loop through via HDMI to my Atomos Ninja - with the Ninja existing between the computer and the regular monitor.

I'm sure there are some PC programs out there too, just becomes difficult sometimes when you're not able to install any additional programs on a client's computer.

Yeah I think because I may not have access to the computer till the day of, and because its a live training (2 hour session with students watching) the Atomos Ninga or similar device might be the way to go. Which version do you have and do you know about the recording length limits?

Thanks so much! Much appreciated

The cheapest solution is a game capture box. Plugs into the HDMI out from a laptop and records at a reasonable 15-18Mbps at 1080p30 (or 1080p/60 in better units) onto a USB external drive.. Amazon has these for around $100. Just search for "game capture recorder"

A capture box might be simpler. It would maybe be best to verify that the computer has the necessary outputs in advance though.
