Animated explainer videos? What do you use?

Hi, just looking at being able to offer animated explainer videos. Had a few requests for them.
What software programs, or sites, do people prefer to use for these?

Also, can anyone post an average price range to charge for these videos?
Thanks

It seems to be in demand.

Using in prepro, production, post, distribution? This question is way too broad, I don’t understand whether you’re asking for recommendations for a camera, editing system, video hosting... or what???

Good work of this type will always be in demand, but the types of media and distribution do change. It all starts with the writing.

Ah Sorry Seth - that's what I get for hitting the submit button quickly, when someone interrupted me while writing the post.

I'm looking to offer animated explainer videos and just want to know what software people prefer these days.

I've updated the post to be more specific. =)
Thx

Sorry if I missed the word “Animated” in your title.

After Effects and a wacom tablet? A bit out of my bailiwick.

You didn't miss it - I added it.

The demand for explainer videos is nowhere near what the promoters of this type of software would have you believe, and you're competing with Fiverr people in the third world. Anyway, it's sometimes useful: Explaindio for quick and dirty. Moho, for more originality. After Effects and presentation software if you don't know those better alternatives.

Still not clear what OP's specific needs are, but I have been playing around with Adobe Character Animator CC, since it is free with my CC subscription and since it plays well with After Effects for compositing with other media.

Thanks. Yes it is sort of distressing, competing with a worldwide freelance market. "I want a world class cinematographer. Five bucks."

As for the explainers, I just want to be able to say "yes" when people ask me if I can animate a short website video for them. That could look a bunch of different ways. So I wanted to start messing around with what's out there and teach myself to do them.

So the post here was just to put it out there and see what others are using when a client asks them to animate a video for their website.

Not talking Pixar here, just simple sales videos, the occasional training video, and such. Some cartoons and basic animated text.

They are not 5 bucks. One demo I saw was over $1k. Visually they look something like you get when you use a 1 sec time lapse interval as someone sketches a concept on a whiteboard.

Hi Kell.

Here's a link to an After Effects template which has achieved about 6,000 sales. The license is a "one-off" for US$29. If you want to use it again for a different end product (different client) you have to pay another US$29.

Two other popular AE templates (both US$49) are:

There's also a plug-in on the FxFactory platform called "Story Pop". You buy this once and can use it to create endless products. They also have a free trial version. FxFactory have a number of cross-platform products (Mac and PC) that typically work for FCP X and Premiere Pro. Although it seems that Story Pop might be FCP X only (Mac).
