interesting green and blue moon aberrations
 

okay, mad scientists...can someone take a look at this footage (QT 7 H.264 formatted) and explain why these happened?

i shot these moon shots using an XL2 and a 70-200mm L series lens. the green moon (or moon shadow, not sure which...) actually appeared in a fairly high resolution not in evidence is this highly compressed web version.

when uncompressed (or lightly compressed, as it were....), these are pretty interesting. not sure if i have a plan or use for them, at the moment, but i'm wondering what is the science behind these aberrations?

The green moon looks like a lens flare or reflection. What camera and filters were used on this shot?

The blue moon simply looks like indoor white balance was used, turning the moon blue.

hi josh: thanks for looking. these were all shot at the same time, and i also have some other images from the exact same shoot which are "normal" white/gray, so the white balance was consistent throughout. all of them were shot while experimenting with a variety of shutter speeds and apertures, but i don't remember the specifics. the blue moon is actually quite pretty at full size. i just thought they were kind of cool but have not been able to replicate them. shooting the moon using a range of interesting white balances is a good idea, though. thanks.
