Are generic camera batteries any good?

I'm looking to grab 2 or 3 more batteries for my Canon XL1s.

The Canon Brand batteries:
Canon BP-945 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2v, 4500mAh) is retail $114.95
and
Canon BP-930 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2v, 3000mAh) is retail $74.99

but... on ebay, I can get

Generic BP-930 and BP-945 Li-Ion Batterys for about $25 after shipping.

Are these batteries really bad? Should I just grab the 45's on B&H?

I tested two of them

i've used generic batteries from ebay for 2-3 years now for my wedding buisness, no problems at all and a 1/5th of the price......

I have a Sony DCR-VX2000, and have used Lenmar batteries for about 5 years now, with no issues whatsoever. At the time, the mAh rating was 20% higher for the Lenmar, and the price was about 30% less. I am still using the original 2 batteries I bought with the camera, which is a really good lifespan for Lithium-Ion.

Here's a Lenmar link for the XL-1s. Retail is about the same as B&H price, you can probably find for even less:

I go to www.laptopsforless.com for my GL2 batteries (Li-on 7.4v 6000mAh), I have bought 2 batteries through them and have had absolutly not problems and they cost me a little under $40 each. This particular battery has last me from 5-9 hrs, depending on LCD use or viewfinder, etc. My niece actually pulled the cord on my camera and my GL2 fell to the ground breaking the battery & I found that the actual battery cells inside are made by Pannasonic..so any way..(GL2 is okay & I glued the battery back together, they both work)

For those of you with GL2s, here is the link:

Lenmar 950 has been working great on my FX1.
