Do Li-ion batteries affect DVC cassettes?

This may seem like a strange question, but I have to be sure.

As a professional musician growing up in the analog days, I was always aware of NOT storing cassettes & VCR tapes near speakers & batteries because they could actually erase the content of the tape.

Forward to the present & our digital world ... will the batteries from my DV & Digital Cameras affect my DVC cassetts if they are stored in the same container?

I'm using Li-ion batteries for both.

I know you can't hurt the memory on a CD or DVD, but is a DVC the same tecnology?

Thanks,
Jesse Luke

I think that the only way they could harm them is by smashing them. You need a magnetic field to affect the alignment of the tape particles, and a battery at rest has no current flow and no associated electrical or magnetic fields.

I kind of thought so, but thanks for putting my mind at rest. What do I know, I'm just a piano player trying to make movies.

Thanks Vic.

The complexities of electronics never cease to surprise me. I've been with the FAA in technical operations for over 30 years, and I'm still sometimes amazed at events. There is always something new to learn. (If I had to play a piano for a living, I'd starve!)
