DV cam can't read/playback my old pics/videos
 

When i copy old pics/vids taken from various older dv cams to my new dv cam's SD card, i can't read/playback them on this new dv cam even if they're "physically" there when viewed from my pc....

is this because of the codecs of my DV? how do i know what codecs it can read? can i alter my old pics/vids' codecs/attribs/properties to become readable and playable on this new dv cam?

Without having taken any still shots with any of my consumer level camcorders that are capable of still shots, take this with grain of salt...I would assume that like standard digicams, it would depend upon the filing system that the camcorder utilizes to recognize the files on the SD card. What I would recommend is to take a snapshot onto the card using the newer cam, and then put the SD card into your PC. Find the folder that contains the new pic, and then drop your older files into that new folder. Hopefully, the new cam will recognize the older pics when it goes to that folder to examine and display the contents. Just dropping the pics onto the card does not let the camera know how to locate them if it is not in that specific folder.

If that does not work, perhaps there is some type of proprietry compression or something that each camera uses to snap the shots...readable by most pc pic apps, but maybe not by other cameras...just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already did that though...
Windows explorer clearly shows all folders (001Movies, 002Pics, etc) in the SD card so I inferred this already from the onset...

I think the problem really is the DV cam's codecs, coz even if I try to alter the old pics to "resemble" new pics' attribs/properties they still can't be "read".
Have used the software that came with it Ulead, even Irfanview but to no avail.

Is there a software there that can convert JPEG pics/movies to exactly duplicate another JPEG pics/movies' attribs/properties?
