UV filter question

Question, other then protecting my lens, do I really need a UV filter? I will be shooting today under cloudy conditions. The UV filter is cause black areas in the corners of my footage. I want to take it off.

Some, though not all, UV filters have a very slight warming effect which can reduce slightly the effects of atmospheric haze in the far distance. Depends on exactly what filter you have. The dark corners are called "vignetting" by the way. About the only thing you need to do is double check the white balance after removing it in case the filter was introducing any warming.
