Logo on DSR-20P
 

I am willing to give anyone several units of kudos if they can tell me what the 3rd logo on the bottom right hand side of a DSR-20p deck is.

looks to me like CM, have no idea what it means, and whilst im rendering, just sitting here twiddling my opposable thumbs i thought id ask.

I think it's the logo for Sony's cassette memory system. When you buy tapes, you can buy them with or without "chip" - the tapes with chip store info like in and out points (I think) captured when you shoot (or edit).

I never use tapes with chip because I've never seen the benefit, especially as they cost more!!

Ahhhh yes! I seem to recall this chip thing, something to do with timecode i believe.
And CM might be "Cassette Memory" im guessing.

Yes, as far as I know, CM stands for "Cassette Memory". The sticker basically means that the cassette has a little 4096 byte chip inside it that stores time, date and title information. It's basically an indexing tool. Also, with Sony cameras, the chip allows the camera to remember the last recorded point.

As far as I can tell, just another way to bump up tape prices!
