Anyone recommend sony vx700???
 

Does anyone recommend a sony vx700, and Does it have 3 ccd's?

It is a 1CCD camcorder, and one of the first to use DV, believe it was 1995 when introduced. Unless it's a really good deal, I would suggest not buying it, as any of today's 1CCD Sony DV camcorders will probably surpass it in terms of low-light performance, color reproduction and a number of other issues. Was just doing to research on this old model in google and this turned up. Sorry.

The VX700 was one of the very first DV camcorders... and it
was the first one I ever saw (someone local had a pair of them).
The thought of finally saying goodbye to Hi-8 and generation
loss was pretty exciting at the time... that was in 1996 for me.

Does take you back though doesn't it Chris! The glory of the VX1000, the promise of the Canon XL-1 -- the agony of convincing clients & broadcasters that DV could pass the quality test ...

Remember the first Panasonic DV camcorder -- with no Firewire port! The confusion over audio sync and the meaning of 'locked audio'! The requirements from some for a padded file that measured 720x486 instead of 480 ...

Yes, simpler days. And days where I still had hair ...

I guess I am intrigued Chris as I still own a Sony VX3 Hi8 3CCD! Just love it! :)

In the early 1990s I remember trying to decide between the VX3 and the Canon L2, 3CCDs vs. interchangeable lenses. I also remember Sony's first webpage ever in 1996, showing the VX700 and the VX1000.

Nowadays, any camcorder I purchase must at least have progressive scan, 1080 lines, and record to solid-state memory.

It's funny Geoff, in some ways it seems like only yesterday even though it was
ages ago... how time flies. Usenet newsgroups, the DV-L mailing list... *sigh*

Our studio had one of each. Of course they didn't come anywhere near matching,
but the color from the VX3 was amazing and the L2 was a lot of fun to use. But
the generation loss was quite a headache, though!

Oh my the memories! As Chris said the VX700 came came out in 1995, and I remember that year clearly because I wrestled between the VX700 (1 CCD) and VX1000 (3CCD) for several days & weeks before making a decision and settling for the VX1000.

This was the first digital camcorder to record to the miniDV format and allow firewire IEEE1394 transfer of data to the computer. I vividly recall upgrading my Pinnacle miroDC30 (analog capture card) to the miroDV300.

I shot a lot of weddings, corporate work and other projects with my VX1000 and when I finally sold it 6 years ago I felt like a part of me was lost. :)
