VX1000, still a contender?
 

Just wanted to know, if you couldnt afford to buy a vx2000, would a vx1000 still be a wise investment? From doing some research it seems that it is, but im not 100% sure.

The VX1000 is an older camera that for me at least works very very well. I had before my pd150's and still have and use it.
However, if there were any way for you to get the 2000 I think you would be better off doing so.

I have both a VX1000 and a PD150. The difference in image quality between the two cameras is significant. The biggest difference is in low light. The VX1000 was notoriously grainy in low light whereas the PD150 (and the VX2000) can almost see in the dark. Even in daylight there is a noticeable difference in image quality. The 150/2000 has a better lens and better chips. Not surprising as it is a much newer camera.

I am still very fond of my VX1000 and use it from time to time. Nevertheless I would agree with Don. The VX2000 is probably worth the difference in the cost between it and a used VX1000.

The VX1000 is still a contender because it has the same playback horizontal line resolution as the XL1S. Really.

I think we all will agree that the shooter is more important than the camera. Lots of fine video has been shot with VX1000s and you can still shoot good video with the camera (assuming that it is in decent shape) even if better cameras have come along.

Especially if the price is right.

If you can find a good used one with not too many hours on the heads and in good condition, yes it's a good deal even now. The picture quality is as good as the XL1.

What are you expecting to pay for a VX1000?
I'm curious to know what they are worth.

I still see them in use in all the pro skateboarding vids.
