Video Mixer JVC km 1200 question

Greetings,

I bought an item in ebay that is exactly like this model:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-KM-120...em300050261709

but i saw this q&a inside the page:
Q: can i use Canon XL-1's with this mixer? Thanks
Nov-18-06
A: This is an analog video mixer. Its tough to use DV cameras because you can't attach a sync pulse to them.

my question is, what do i need in order to fit in dv cameras such as the xl1 to this mixer?

do i need to get a sync pulse generator such as the one on the link below in order to make it work?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Leitch-SPG-100N-...em250048144710

hope u guys can help me... i do not understand what a sync pulse is or what it does.

Thanks

Kit

...im not really in to all this stuff but if your running the signal out of the RCA out put in the back of the camera then it should be coming out analog. but ether way i use 2 gl2's with an xl1s and mix them with a analog mixer ive never used a pulse generator or what ever you were talkin about. and it comes out just fine for me.

Hi Kit,
I have a JVC KM1200 too. And sad to say. The cost of getting it to work with your XL1 is higher than getting another mixer. The sync pulse generator would generate sync to sync all your cameras together. But still not allow you to use the XL1 because the XL1 doesn't have BB or sync input.
The JVC KM1200 is great for pro cameras with BB/sync inputs like the Panasonic Supercams/Beta SP cameras. But with the current DV cameras
XL1/2 DVX100 PD170. Spend the money on a brand new mixer like the Edirol V4, Datavideo SE500 or Numark AVM02.

Hi Hsien!

So, the DV Cameras wont work at all with the km1200? or just some features of it?

my intention with it is just to do dissolves and cuts between DV Cameras and/or RCA output from a PC. and my output is an LCD Projector or TV.

will it work for me this way? or it will not work at all?

thanks

Kit

The DV cameras won't work at all with the KM1200.

Yup. That's the same way we wanted to use our KM1200.
But it doesn't work.

There is another option.
If you get a TBC you can sync the Canons. Options vary, dps made a series of TBC for the AMIGA but they also run on old ISA MB just for power, and you can Sometimes find a RC1 unit that allows these to be controlled without any software. It is a bit of a pain and in fact just getting another mixer that has a built in frame sync makes things much easier.
