Affordable DigiBeta deck rental...?

Anyone know of an affordable DigiBeta deck rental in the Los Angeles/Long Beach areas?
I need to capture 10 minutes of footage through firewire and would love to not pay $400 to do it.

I'm up on production rentals, but don't know the post rental houses too well...

as far as i know you do not capture digibeta thru firewire ( i could behind the times?)
there are converters that convert the 10 bit 4:2:2 data to 8 bit DV ( 4:1:1) and then goes over firewire to computer ..
if you are going the convert to 4:1:1 - you can get your Digibeta dubbed to DVcam or DV for $40-50 at post/dub houses ...

if you want the digibeta 10 bit clips then you'll need a place that has a decklink card ( avid and aja are priporitory 10 bit files - avid can capture the digbeta as 8bit 4:2:2 data and those will play on any computer if you download their free meridian codec) ...
call around to see what companies have digibeta/decklink and see if they'll capture it for you ...
the place i use in SF charges 200hr in/out to digibeta - they capture on a Mac /decklink ... then transfer the QT files over giga network to a PC connected to my NTSF external 1394 hard drive ... decklink provides the free codec on their site ...

I've been doing some web-scouring...

The Sony J-30SDI does firewire out. Now to just find a good rental price...

I need to keep the footage in 4:2:2, so going to DV/DVCPro/DVCAM isn't really an option.

Here's a PDF on the Sony Deck: http://www.digitalbetacamtodvd.com/d...a_J-30_SDI.pdf

I don't believe you can capture 4:2:2 over firewire, unless you are going through a Panasonic DVCPRO50 deck. But that won't even make sense, because it would act as a middleman and waste time + lower quality. Firewire only does DV25 (normal DV), DVCPRO50 (panasonic's DV variant), DVCPRO100 (again, Panasonic). Firewire can also transfer computer data files.

If you need to capture 4:2:2, you could find a post facility who will capture into a FCP or Avid system. They can then transfer that material onto an external drive (supply yours, and format it with the right file system- Mac or NTFS). Also check that the codec + file wrapper will work with your editing system.

Thanks, that was most helpful.

Admittedly this is my first time dealing with DigiBeta in post, so it's all a bit of trial-and-error.

This question is tied to a bigger issue I posted in a different thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=80145

The J30 decks can be had with firewire and SDI, about 30% the rental cost of say a 500, after all, all you need is a player.
If you capture via firewire then all you get is DV and in my humble opinion, not the best downconvert to be had.
If you have an SDI card then yes, you'll get the full 4:2:2 10 bit capture into the BMD codec (assuming you were to use a Decklink card) or as said you could have a post house do the capture for you. Bear in mind you need roughly 3 times the space per minute than DV uses and for RT playback a RAID 0 array is a good idea. None of this is hugely expensive these days.

I have found capturing DB as DV from the SDI port on the J30 via the Convergent Design SD Connect gives a better result, amazing how good DV can look! Still it is DV, 4:1:1, 8 bit.
