Wireless Intercom
Can I get any recommendations from the users on good wireless intercoms for live production? We are operating on the standard wired Clear-Com system and its really becoming a hassle.
I am not interested in half-duplex at all. |
clear com also makes wireless units

Hi - I regularly rent anywhere from 5 -10 units from a provider here in NZ.
They are all Motorola - I get them to put on the "helicopter "style head set and configure the units w/o ptt. That way the cam ops can talk to me using the vox activation from the mic, and more importantly me to them (although some of them might say that's not so much of a biggie :-)). Frequency is not an issue as the company I rent from owns whatever frequency we're going to be using over the duration. It does require a little training in order for ops to get the hang of using vox. A blow of a "p" is what I've found best to activate vox. And then talk w/o a break in their sentence. The units I've rented have proven to be absolutely reliable other than variable battery time - so I always have at least 2 x as many batteries on hand. The only total pita is charging - a constant job over a 5 day shoot. |
How about a cheap solution for this?
Anyone found an inexpensive system?

Eartec
I use a four Eartec 904 Pro set (master with three remotes) - $780 at B&H; see http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search for details.
They are OK except in high noise environment - I use them in my church and get good communication except when the whole congregation is singing or an orchestra/organ is performing. |
