Panasonic GS500 - No DV Device Detected

Google has failed me..

I've tried searching for this solution to no avail. Right now I currently have my USB 2 connection running into my motherboard AND my firewire connection running into my motherboard and I cannot get an NLE to detect that I have a capture device. I've installed the software that came with the camera and I am able to very easily see the SD chip pictures in PC Connection Mode. I would like to use firewire to import some video I have to MotionDV (the program it came with). I feel like this is an easy problem to solve but after reading the manual and searching online I've got nothing.

Which NLE are you trying to use? And what operating system are you running?

And by running your firewire connector to the motherboard does that mean that is your only firewire connection available?

If so you might check to see if there is some jumper on your motherboard that might need to be changed to "enable" the firewire port.

The last 2 PC's I purchased came with 3 firewire port connections, one on the front and 2 on the back. Both are Windows XP machines and I've been running Pinnacle Studio (now up to 10.7 plus) and recognition of digital video camcorders over firewire has been automatic.

Thanks for your reply Bruce,

While I was waiting for a response I figured it out. My motherboard's bios had the firewire disabled by default...yet it still showed up in device manager. I enabled it in the bios and everything worked. I wish I had 3 firewire ports...only 1 over here. :)
