SECRETS OF THE JVC GY DV5000-tip#1-HIDDEN MENU

OK-I was able to really rip into this camera. Found some hidden menus. WARNING: Don't blame me if you forget the default settings-you are ON YOUR OWN.

The first SECRET is a way to adjust the battery alarm from going off prematurely. The alarm seems to sound when there is little voltage depression. I use a 13.2 Switronix battery. The "Low-Battery" alarm goes off at 12.7! Way too high of a setting for me.

Well, here is how you can lower the sensitivity:

1) PRESS both the + and - EDIT SEARCH BOTTON and STATUS BUTTON
release same after the FIRST service menu appears.

2) PRESS BOTH the AUTO and LUX and STATUS

3) You will now observe a second menu -- DO NOT START FIDDLING AROUND WITH THE SETTINGS.

4) NOW-using the shutter wheel-SCROLL to VTR2.

5) SCROLL down to BATTERY ALARM

6) PUSH the shutter button IN

7) ADJUST the battery voltage to the point where you would like the ALARM to sound.

I set mine to 12 volts as I am running a 13.2 battery. You will have to "play" with the setting and see how fast your battery depletes after 12 volts. Of course if you are running a 14.2 volt battery, the setting will be higher. A 12 volt battery can be set before the cut-off of about 10.9 volts. However. the cut-off can also be adjusted in this menu area.

Again: Be careful not to change any settings you are not comfortable or familiar with.

STAY TUNE FOR NEXT WEEKS TIP -- FOUND SOMETHING REALLY OUTSTANDING.

Hi Lou,

Do these tips/hidden features only apply to the DV5000 or also it's predecessor the DV500?

Thanks,
Clayton
