WOW! Low shutter is awesome for...

...waterfalls just after sunset!

Using my GL2, tripod mounted, at 1/8s shutter I shot a few minutes of a beautiful, colorful, multi-tiered waterfall just after a very warm setting sun dipped behind me bathing the falls in a golden warmth.

The slow shutter makes the water look surrealistic.

What a beautiful effect.

I did some TV spots last year for a film festival using a DSR250 with 1/8 shutter speed. I shot at night, showing people coming in and out of different theaters. By locking down the camera on the tripod, the theater and all the nice neon lights would stay sharp, but the people rushing in and out would be blurred and strobed. When I would do a hand-held shot, walking along with the people, they would be sharp but strobed, and the theater in the background would be blurred nicely. I call it the Hal Hartley effect (If you haven't seen "Book of Life," order the DVD from Amazon right now. Lots of cool slow shutter effects, shot with VX1000 in 1999.)
