Video lacks contrast -- help

My editor e mailed me a clip. It look fine when played in the e mail, but when I save this attachment to desktop and then play it, it look flat and contrast is gone. what is this about, and what can we do? thanks.

Hi, it sounds like the gamma is a little off - could it be you are using a Mac and him a PC / or vice versa ? PC and MAc have different gamma settings.

Alternativly, it could be that the software you are using isn't picking up on 601 encoding (assuming it is SD) and not setting the black and white levels correctly.

If I were you I would check the black levels and have a mess about with the gamma.
