How do you correct exposure?

I have a Sony DCR-DVD92 w/ a Carl Zeiss lens, How do you correct the exposure for whiteout video? I tried using the exposure on the camera and set as low as possible. I was trying to film near water with a bit of fog burn off, And it turns everything completely white. The background turns almost black. So how do I correct for all of the glare? The subject lost all depth. What am I doing wrong?

I think that you may need a nutral density filter for the lens. Look and see if there are threads in front of front element of the lens and then check your manual to see what size filter you'll need. It should be available at a Sony dealer. It's basically like a set of sunglasses for your camera. It knocks down the highlights while preserving the shadow detail.

Hope this helps...
