Does anyone know what hourly rate one should charge for Motion graphics?

Hi,
I've worked 58 hours on this motion graphics project, it was pretty succesful (it was an introduction for an event). Now they've asked me how long I worked on it and how much I wanted for making this. I'm not a motion graphics specialist (but I'm aspiring to become one, more than a movie/televisionmaker, to be honest), so this lack of specialism should be factored in, imo.

With a bit of apprehension, here's a link to the project in question.

Here's a "lighter" version - it's the last version before finishing up with the final hi-quality output.

Whatever you feel your time is worth. Companies charge different amounts based on where they live and skill level. I guarantee you I would charge a different amount then you or anyone else would for the same project, it's the nature of the business. So to give you an amount, I might be too low or too high. This is really something you have to decide for yourself. I guarantee you're going to get a different amount from everyone who replies to this thread. Just be fair.

Apparently, for Belgians, the hourly rates for DTP is between 25-40 euros, where in the Netherlands, they're charging from 30 up to 50-60 euros.

All this is VAT not included.

Do you think this should have been discussed with your client beforehand? Just my opinion, but I thinkg you've created an almost no-win situation.

Oh yeah, most of the time I do this upfront. However, this time, I was employed by a company that acted as a third party (they organized the event). And their client has asked them to come up with a clip like I eventually did.

Also, usually, I try to speak to the original requester directly. This time, again, I only really communicated with the middle man, which complicated things considerably and made me edgy about feedback/criticism from the client (in an unexpected way).
