HDC-TM700: Grand Canyon North Rim
 

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is roughly 1000 feet higher in elevation and receives only 10% of the visitors seen by the South Rim.

I did the Four Corners last summer, including the North Rim.

Took some great images, but no decent video.

Got a nice, relaxed feeling watching your video.

For each of your time-lapse sequences, about approximately how long did they take to shoot?

Are you using 1 frame every 30 seconds?

I usually shoot cloud time-lapse at 1 second intervals for 5 minutes to get 10 seconds of video.

Dan, nice job. I've always felt that GC is a very difficult place to get good pictures. They just don't seem to translate the beauty and majesty, but your video conveyed both very well.

Is the north rim tougher to get to? I usually travel from Vegas.

I've been to the Wave, Zion and Bryce, as well as the south rim, but there's a north rim shot looking down the Colorado River that I've wanted to grab and never had the chance.

Dan, the video appears to be a in wmv format on Vimeo - is that the format you uploaded?

Also, would you please share your post workflow? I am looking into buying a TM700 but postproduction is a bit scary...

From Phoenix it's about 6 hours, I'd guess you'd be looking at a little over 5 hours from Vegas. When you go, don't miss the short drive to Cape Royal.

Using Vegas Pro 9 or the new Vegas Movie Studio HD 10, and Window 7 with Intel i7, there should be no fear. I drag the clips into either Vegas program and they're ready to edit. No conversion required.

WMV is my usual prefered rendering format.
