Who is thinking PL lenses on the AF100?
 

How many of you are thinking of using PL lenses on the AF100? Which brands/models you would consider, zooms vs. primes, older vs. newer PL lenses, new/used, etc...

I'm thinking this as although I've got a lot of Nikon primes, the 2x crop factor from 35mm (still 35mm I mean) is going to be rough, and there are a lot of great PL mounted lenses for 35mm (movie 35mm).

Just wondering if any of you are thinking the same thing, and if you had any insights on what will be most cost effective.

Had you played "wing man" better, I COULD have shoved a set under my vest and run like heck... Oh wait, I had that awful blister after the 4 mile walk up the Strip... never mind.

Those were the ones I was looking at while you were playing. I have the brochure here somewhere. I THINK they are $4k a piece or 5 for the price of 4 if you buy the set... something like that anyway.

Oh, and they cover a full 24mm x 36mm sensor (35mm still).

The great benefit to the enhanced sensitivity of the DSLR's is that you don't need the fastest lenses any more, which makes for a less expensive purchase/rental. I'd like to think that as folks have gotten past the novelty of being able to work at shallow depth of field, the objective is turning to creative choices and actually keeping things in focus. I rarely shoot at less than a 2.8 on my 1DMKIV. On "No Ordinary Family" we rarely strayed from a T4, even on night exteriors, which was revelatory for the AC's! (still not a cakewalk by any means, especially out at 290mm on the zoom).

The CP2's are very nice and a good indicator of where things are going.

Regarding 35mm still lenses vs cine: Dylan, the crop factor is only rough if you are thinking of the full frame factor. The cine lenses don't offer any advantage when it comes to focal lengths, and are most certainly more bulky, heavy and far more expensive. Of course they are easier to work with for traditional production. I miss having the iris on the barrel with my ZE's; one day I will want to do an iris pull and have to come up with a solution of some sort (I'm thinking a geared version of the dual-polarized filter).

I was getting my check book out for the advanced set of 7, but I just couldn't remember the conversion rate. Would that be $ 35 K USD ? A bit higher than the $750 I have put into my various Nikon Ebay prizes...
