Keep DV-852 or get DV-953
 

Hello,

I just bought a DV-852 for $600 plus tax. I would not mind trading this in for the 953 only if the jump in quality is noticeable. So, Is it worth trading?

They both have high resolution but you will notice the video quality better with the 953, unless you are shooting in lower light---that's where the 852 shines. That's a fantastic deal you got for your PV-DV852.

First of all I have to say thanks to Frank for answering me in another post and helping me to pull the trigger on the cam.

I purchased the cam at a new Fry's in Dallas. They were closing them out. I would pick one up for you but I got the last one. I would consider selling it, however I really have not shot anything with it yet. I need some time with the cam.

So I called my two local Fry's Electronics stores and asked if they still had the discontinued DV852 in stock. At one store they told me, "Oh, we just sold our last one. It was listed at $399.90."

$399.90?!?!?! I wonder who the lucky guy is who picked that up.

Anyway, I got one off eBay for $600. Very happy with it.

The 399.90 price was for another cam. When I got mine the sales guy was confused, so I went through the same thing.

Keep the 852 if you don't need audio adjust, 3CCD daylight colours (the MX8 I had wasn't too bad, actually), and things like zebra lines, sharpness control and dedicated White Balance button.

The 953, will give you better colours in bright lights and the "pro" controls lacking in the 852. The top loading of the 953 is a big plus for tripod use. However, I don't like the position of the jog-dial of the 953, which is unreachable while shooting.

For US$600, the 852 is really affordable. I bought my MX8 (PAL model) for Singapore$2300 (about US$1300) 18 months ago!

And, just to clarify (regulars to this forum will be bored of this by now), I sold my MX8 for my MX350 for the reasons given above.

I thought you got rid of your MX8 and replaced it with the MX350 because the MX350 was bigger and more pokerish, along with the 2 extra CCDs of course. :)

Yes, I like poker cams! :-) I kept the discussion to the technical aspects, but if looks can kill, then the MX350 is certainly a better killer than the MX8 in terms of 'poker'! hahaha! Not to mention 2 more CCDs!
