Im getting my ass kicked here (DV953)

Im trying to get video from my camera(Pana DV953) across firewire to my pc. Im using AVID xpress pro and Vegas4.

I cant get the programs to recognize my camera or get a capture.

This is my first camera so I know nothing about it.

In Windows Movie maker I can see a picture in camera mode but I cant get the damn thing to capture whats on tape.

Oh and the the manual has NO mention of firewire connectivity.

Im using WinXP and it does recognize my camera.

Help please!

Is the camera in VTR mode?

John Gaspain October 24th, 2003 12:18 PM

what is this VTR mode you speak of?

Nathan Gifford October 24th, 2003 12:40 PM

There are two modes on cameras; camera mode, and VTR (Video Tape Recorder).

Camera mode is what you shoot your video in. VTR allows the computer access to camera tape deck allowing the PC to perform all the functions it needs on the tape.

If you had the cam in camera mode, you might see video but the PC will not be able to drive the tape deck. Also make sure you haven't engaged something like pause control.

It might be called playback mode or VCR mode. At any rate it's the same configuration you need to have in order to play tapes from the camcorder. Should be in your camera user's manual.

Consulting a PDF version of the DV953 manual which I just downloaded, it's "VCR mode" as detailed on page 36.

Oh ok yea VCR mode is what I had it in. All that shows up on the program display is the standard black screen.

Damn i wish the manual covered this.

Now this is one more reason to own an Apple. :-)

Hope you like the camera and what it will do for you! It has suited my purposes very well as I use it on live TV sports broadcasts I work on for scene sets to add further color into the broadcasts I work on.

Enjoy!
