A good idea, Yow. When you first mentioned this, I considered doing exactly that, so I could use my 52mm filters I have for my Nikon. :-))

Saw that Hama M49, M52, M55 rectangular hood a while ago but that circular portion at the back is not screw type, but rather grip or clip type (on the lens barrel). Is there enough space on the 852 barrel for that or will you be hitting the focus ring?
Round rubber lens hoods for 43mm can be bought for $3 in Tokyo. |

Here you go....

When I buy a WA, I am going to do a little more serious shopping for a useful hood. I will keep you posted on what I find. Anyone out there find a good hood for their WA or anamorphic adapter? |
Nice and cool looking hood, but the mic seems way too large!
How do you ensure that the hood is horizontal, such that you don't get uneven light entering or worse, vignetting? |
Well, when you choose a hood, it should be the appropriate size for your lens diameter. There are guidelines you can reference to aid you. This way you are assured that vignetting etc. is not an issue.
To get the hood horizontal, you can eye it fairly accurately by placing the camera on a plum surface and using the guide line on the top of the hood. A slight tilt amounting to a degree or two unlevel will not effect light enterting the lens. Actually, one of the reasons I prefer rectangular hoods to their round cousins, is that you can actaully rotate them to matte out unwanted light (to a degree). In terms of the mic, I agree, it is a little huge....my wife thinks it is some sort of phallic statement :) I for one am a big advocate of function over fashion however...this azden is a great shotgun mic for the money. |
