Are we being "HAD?"

If Panasonic buys its CCDs from Sony, wouldn't Pana's chips be HAD?

George Beck April 25th, 2004 08:09 PM

if DX10's CCDs are HAD... GS400 should be too...
are DX10's CCDs HAD?

Chris Hurd April 25th, 2004 09:35 PM

JVC buys their CCD's from Sony. Panasonic makes their own. Kinda makes Matsushita a bit two-faced, eh?

Frank Granovski April 25th, 2004 09:40 PM

I didn't know that. That's strange. So do I have a 1/3" HAD CCD in my JVC GR-DVL9500U cams? Maybe that's why they're good in low light? Hmmm, I wonder. The DVL9500 CCD is 380K with 360K video effective pixels---same as the VX2000's CCD's? Hmmm. :-))

George Beck April 26th, 2004 01:43 AM

damn I feel stupid....
I just checked that the DX10 has a total number of pixels the expected number of pix of each CCD of the GS400 =/
so It's different CCD for GS400

You mean the PDX10 correct?

George Beck April 26th, 2004 03:02 PM

yep =/
is there another Sony camcorder with 1/4.7" CCD?

There are several of 3CCD and single CCD.

TRV38, TRV950, TRV39, PC105...

George Beck April 26th, 2004 03:37 PM

well.. the CCD we are looking for is from a 3CCD cam, 1/4.7", and about 1megapix in size... =/
unless Pana is making again it's own CCDs =/

That would only be the TRV950 and PDX10 with 3CCD and 1070k pixels per each of their three 1/4.7" CCDs.

My bet is still on 1/6" CCDs for the GS400 but I'd like to be proven wrong.

George Beck April 26th, 2004 07:06 PM

so.. some hope shines trough again... =)
thats what I thought at first... that PDX10 had 3x1,070,000
but then some SONY page was saying "1070000" -TOTAL
... as you said they are each 1Mega (just saw it in another Sony page too).. now I feel stupid for feeling stupid before :)

It would be nice to have 1/4.7 HAD CCDs. =)

Tommy, all signs show that the new CCD will have more photosensors... more pixels... I REALY hope that it won't be 1/6"
since that means smaller photosensors leading to worse Lux sensitivity than ever before..
=/

The 3D noise reduction process of the Crystal Engine should compensate for that..somehow..:-)

Frank Granovski April 26th, 2004 07:49 PM

and with the wider front lens element?

George Beck April 26th, 2004 09:03 PM

=) I think if you make them any smaller they wll be too small for a photon to sneak-in ;-)

when do you think the official specs will be available?

Frank Granovski April 26th, 2004 09:46 PM

Full specs haven't yet been released. I'm still waiting as well. Summer's almost at our doorstep. I wonder what's taking Panasonical so long. (Give it up, please.)
