AG-DVC30 stills????

heh does anyone have or know where i can get some frame grabs and stills from this camera. there isn't a lot of talk around on this camera and if you ask me it looks pretty good. now that the gs-400 is pure dreams i think i want some info on this camera.

I agree! This looks like a gem of a camera:

3 ¼ CCD’s 410k
16x Zoom (That’s the equivalent of a 40 – 630 zoom in 35mm terms.)
16:9 – both letterbox and anamorphic modes
Same A/D converter and RGB gamma processor as the DVX-100A
30fps and CineGamma filter

All in a svelte 2.2 lb package. That’s a half pound lighter than the GL-2. And considerably smaller: its two inches longer and one inch wider than the DV953. And the kicker is that the DVC30 is made of a sturdy magenesium alloy, rather than plastic like the GL-2s. And at the current price ($2ooo + change at some respectable retailers) it’s a tempting upgrade for 953 owners.. However, the camera does NOT take stills (in case you were looking for that capability). It’s CCD’s are strictly optimized for video.

I don’t know of any video samples available, but there is a good review here:

Thanks for that mate. unfortunately there hasn't been a lot of talk in these forums of these cameras. there was a little bit when it first came out but nothing since. i do a search in all of dvinfo and nothing much. The lens sounds good. i wonder what limitations it has because of its size. I don't think that it has made it to australia and considering the interest it has gotten in the states i would be surprised if it ever did.

FWIW the PAL version is sold as the AG-DVC32.

starting to like this camera more and more -- thinking about either getting the pdx10 or the dvc 30 now

Same here but price and lack of high resolution widescreen mode keep me leaning more towards the PDX10. Currently B&H has the PDX10 for $1850 and the DVC30 for $2300. Then when you add the XLR adapter to the DVC30 (included with the PDX10) you're right at $2535 and thats almost a $700 difference between the two.

didn't you already own a pdx Tommy?

I know what you mean, but I'm planning on selling this baby once new Sony HD cameras come out. I am going to Russia for 3 months, and need a very sturdy camera which DVC30's body seems to be. Thought about the dvc80 but 6 inches longer :( So dvc30 seemed like a perfect choice to me. In addition I would love the xlr but lugging the extra items for me is really not an option... 16:9 is of course a loss but other features of this camera outweight it for me personally...

Ordered it from profeelvideo.com for 1977.75. Should be here Tuesday.

doesn't the pdx10 only have 1/6 inch ccds? Problems with low light, like other 1/6 inch ccd cams?

seems the dvc30 would compare more with a GL2, but with manual controls?

it has 1/4.7" ccds

yeah dvc30 is better in lowlight.. we'll see how it goes when I get the camera I'll be sure to post my experiences

I have yet to hold a DVC30 but my PDX10 was built like a tank.

If I didn't shoot exclusively widescreen and had extra money I would consider the DVC30 which appears to be a very upscale DV953 (which in itself is a great cam).

The DVC30 will definitely have GL2'ish low light performance and thats the reason it lacks a quality 16:9 mode with its low pixel count per CCD.

I'm still holding out for a native widescreen 1/3" 3CCD under $3000. I dont' have high hopes for anything Sony, 3CCD, and HDV with a price less than $5000.

At the risk of being flamed, have you considered the
jvc gy-dv300? 1/3 inch chips, cinema like gamma...
built in xlr connections. Has 52mm front so there are anamorphic attachments for it.

Has poor autofocus, but in manual mode people who use it seem to like it.

the gy-dv300 is going cheaper than the dvc30 in some places.
It's listing for 2100 US at BandH.

My DVC30 will arrive next week. Can't wait to learn all its features and maximize its potential.

yeah I've looked at it also ... going for about the same thing as dvc80 -- yet both are 4 inches longer and 1lb heavier than dvc30

if not for that would have loved to take the dvc80 with me :)

Hmm yes but the '30, if it has proscan, will provide a very interesting competition, because you lose resolution to interlacing and through a vertical LPF in the PDX10. Better low light, less smear... we need somebody to report in the '30's performance in progressive scan.
