GS400 PAL has 25P and Pro-Cinema mode

Just a quick note to confirm that the PAL version does in fact have 25P and a Cine-Pro mode with Cine-like gamma derived from that which can be found on the DVX100 (wider tonal scale).

This stems from the press release on the German Panasonic site.

5. Pro-Cinema-Modus
Kinofilme werden üblicherweise mit 24 Vollbildern pro Sekunde gedreht (frames per second, fps). Im Pro-Cinema-Modus arbeitet der NV-GS400 mit nahezu identischen 25 fps, d.h. wie beim Kinofilm werden 25 Vollbildern progressiv in der Kamera erzeugt. Bei der Vollbildabtastung zeichnet die Kamera eine Bewegungsphase mit 1/25-Sekunde auf. Statt zwei Bewegungsphasen wie beim herkömmlichen TV-Bild mit 1/50-Sekunde, friert die Kamera die Bewegung in einem Bild ein. Das Ergebnis: Die Bewegung "fließt" zusammen, genau wie beim Kinofilm. Es ergeben sich dieselben klaren Bewegungsabläufe, wie sie für Kinofilme typisch sind. Zusätzlich wird die Luminanz in dunkleren Szenen angehoben und in helleren abgesenkt. Insgesamt erhält man einen optimalen Dynamikumfang und damit eine bessere Kontrastwiedergabe.

The public price is 1990 € but the camcorder can already be found for less than 1800 € in France.

The Pro Cinema mode's cine-like gamma and 16:9 is verifiable by the GS400 manual we have but unfortunately that 25p is not progressive scan. The 25p should read 25fps (frames per second) for its frame mode which is similar to progressive scan but suffers from resolution loss. The same goes for the NTSC GS400 which has a 30fps frame mode.

Hmm, you are probably correct, although the german press release is somewhat misleading, and so is the manual.

I will try and get the final word on this matter next week (assuming someone at Panasonic France knows the real answer...).
