Can the DVC15 phantom power a mic?

I'm thinking about getting a used DVC15 and an Audio-Technica AT4073A mic and I was wondering if I could power that mic off the DVC15. I searched through the manual and didn't see anything about powering a mic, so I'm doubtful.

Are there any DVC15 users that know the answer to this?

Don't know. Don't know hardly anything about phantom power, exept that it's better. My mic uses a battery. Have you called your Pana Pro dealer and asked?

Tony Hall August 5th, 2004 03:51 PM

I'm pretty sure it can't... I was just hoping a DVC15 owner would tell me otherwise.

You can always use a Beachtek.

Well, I've already decided to pass on the DVC15 for a couple of reasons. Besides, the one I was watching on Ebay went for 1300 which is only about 900 less than the DVC60 will sell for on B&H. I'm seriously considering the DVC60.

Panasonic's newer camera provide 48v phantom power to microphones, but the Audio-Technica AT4073A microphone 52v of power... that means it won't work, right? That's a shame. The Sennheiser ME66, however, can be powered between 12 and 48 volts, so that would work. I hear that the Audio Technica is the better microphone, so that sucks. Am I correct about this stuff?

Bryan Beasleigh has recommended the Oktava before. Perhaps you should go to the audio forum and poke around.

I also use the Oktava (with the hypercardioid capsule). I haven't had any problems and I'm happy with the quality I'm getting.

Here's a good one:

Look at its pattern:

If you need phantom power, I risk saying that neither the DVC15 and DVC60 seem to have that cappability. They provide XLR inputs, but the switch only has mic or line options. There should be a phantom switch.

The phantom voltage I mean is 48v, which is the professional type. The outputs may provide lower voltages though, around 6v or so, for some consumer mics.

Why would you pick this camera over the DVC30?

I'd pick the DVC60 over the DVC30 because it's a shoulder mount. If the DVC30 provides phantom power, you can be sure that the DVC60 will.

I wouldn't bet on that. They seem different breeds altogether. To start with the DVC30 lens is Leica, and the DVC60's is Panasonic.

The photos do not show any switch by the XLRs, so it's probably like the Cannon XL1S, which had a XLR adaptor but was not balanced. No phantom either. Only the new XL2 is bringing phantom power.

Is everybody else having trouble opening the DVC60 brochure at the Panasonic website? I get an error message everytime I try to open it. If they don't have a brochure yet, then they shouldn't have a link to it.

I can't download the damn thing on my computer for some reason. Would someone email it to me please?
