I have recently purchased a MX500A, and to be honest I do not know how to use it yet. But I am really looking forward to viewing everyones experiences so I can learn with you all.

I have tried to create a CVD but it was a disaster, blocky, poor colour any way enough said.

I tried using multiple software packages to create AVI, then used ULEAD Video studio 6 to create the VCD, my first opinion is I won't try that again.

I will stick to Prem 6.5 solely, all I need to know is which is the best VCD burning app.

Well, Jag, I can't help you with this. But I can feel your pain. Regarding DVDs...thank God we have great NLE forums here. If I'm looking for NLE advice, that's where I go!

Use Premiere 6.5 to render MPEG1 for VCD. I find the quality of compression acceptable.

Then, import the MPEG files into Nero Burning Room.

(In Nero, you must create a new VCD project. Nero will not recompress/reprocess the compressed file - but just plain burning).

Well, risking a boot to the NLE forum:

I use the free download Tsunami MPEG Encoder (www.tmpgenc.net) for conversion of avi to mpeg-1 (VCD). This program is VERY good. Fast and converts straight from the DV avi file. The results may even look lalmost like DVD for scenes with minimal movement!

Seems like not many people have the MX500 in this forum. Maybe we can start another thread that says, "Declare your MX cams". What say you, Frank?

Yup, I recommeded a colleague of mind and he purchased an MX500/5000 yesterday.

I own a TRV950 but I think the MX500 is more suitable for him especially in terms of cost and with lots of extras included. He wanted a cam that delivers acceptable video and still and insisted 3CCDs - and I guess this is best choice.

So, what do you guys want to know? I haven't got the chance to view the results from a tv set yet and only managed to shoot a few minutes of footage and some stills.

Sorry for the late reply. Guess I am the only one with MX500. So what you wanna know?

As I've mentioned before, the video quality under good lighting condition is sharper than, say MX300(which I also own). Its a top loading cam, its one of the smallest 3CCD cam, save for AG-EZ50 or EZ35 which is not sold in Singapore. The level of detail in the video is amazing. But...... low light is, as usual poorer than the old MX300/350.

However, that is enough reason for me to buy it.

I can't wait to get my sweaty hand on the DVX100.

I just Purchased an MX5000 directly from Japan for $1191.00 and very happy with it. Takes a little time to get used to Japanese menus, but other then that very happy. Also as many of you know that low light quality of this camcorder is not great, but with adequate light its fine.

I read a post in the Yahoo MX500 email group that if you remove the lens hood and use a light (the 10watt one from Japan was recommended) that the MX500 performed considerably better in low light. My light should arrive in a couple days , has anyone tried this yet?
