Which external video light for MX500?

Hi All,

I've read all the posts about the low light performace of the MX500.

Does anyone know of an external light that can help with this? I'm located in Australia so I will need to purchase it from the web I guess.

Regards

Savvas

There are 2 or 3 different light units available for the MX300. Perhaps these will work with the MX500? Perhaps there are light units available for the MX500? Check out this site and e-mail them to see what there is.

http://www.qtechnologies.com has a page for stuff you can get for the MX cams.

I hope nobody gets offended by this suggestion... ;)

You can also buy one of those Sony videolights which runs on Sony batteries & are not dependant on the power drawn from the camera's hotshoe. They have one that is switchable from 10 watt to 20 watt. 20 watt requires the big battery.

Assuming that if it makes sense for you to get Sony i.e. you may have some Sony batteries & chargers, and if getting Panasonic stuff is difficult in your part of the world.

Panasonic also has one that takes Panasonic batteries, you can adjust from spot to wide angle, but you have to source from Japan (Nic Sealander) - check out Frank's website - http://www.dvfreak.com.

The neat thing about these self powered lights is that you can have a few and mount it on stands or leave it on tables etc. so you are not limited to having it fixed on the camera hotshoe.

There are also some small cheap camera video lights which run on batteries with either cigarrete lighter style plugs (non pro type!) or XLR (pro type) but you can easily get 12volt replacement batteries (or make your own...).
