A test with the 120x digital zoom

Hi,

today I to checked something about the sharpness because it was in an earlier thread and makes me curious about it. I made the test with my MX300.
I used 120 x digital zoom and took aim to a branch of a tree in my garden. The backfround was the sky. Then I opened the menu were I could set the sharpness. Now I could see 'online' how the edges and seams were changed by contrast. Also the changing of the grain could be seen exactly. I noticed a very small enhancement when the sharpness was set to the lowest value.

May be that the digital zoom is good to check other properties of the picture. Yes it is like a strong magnifying glass.

Great tip! I never thought to do this. Thanks!

I check the grain and edge sharpness by pluging into my TV and shooting under lower light at home. By adjusting the sharpness down, the grain is reduced, but eh edges seems very blurry. And when adjusted up, the grain increased while the edge sharpens.

This is most obvious in gain mode. The effect is a lot less noticeable in optical mode (f16 to f1.6).

I must be a lucky MX300 owner. I've never had any problems nor seen and problems other than beautiful, rich video, coupled with impeccable sound. But then this isn't really a problem, right?
