DV953 / MX5000...same camera?

Have we a final word on if the American release is the same as the Japanese model? If not, what are the differences?

ps...WOO-HOO! I made Regular Crew!

I know, "less caffeine".

It's the same camera. The only thing missing that I'm aware of is the skin tone feature (I think).

skin tone

How does this work on the MX5000? How is it different from if I have proper white balancing without having this control? Is the color redder or bluer than the real image?

Thanks!

Don't know. I've heard this is a useless feature anyway.

i dunno bout this skin skin tone feature, but what i do kno wis that there is a flat even tone thruout the whole image.
I did some "breakfast show" clips for a marketting company and the footage came out perfect using only the light coming from a huge window and a white reflector board. The cam was set to manual.
The MX, doesnt have selections in menu on whether or not skin tone is on or not, but i can say that there is none of the red or pink tint to the skin tone... regardless of lighting..

IMO (and im sure some people will disagree with me here) the skin tones are a little (keyword) more accurate than the Canon's.

the actual cam itself only has sharpness and colour saturation controls, there no level metering for any particular colour, but you can run the camera mode in auto and set "lighting/type of filming" preset tints and speeds which IMO are useless... this is the progressive ae i think.. (from memory)cant rememebr what its called either way, but it adjusts shutter, iris and filter for indoor and neon/fluoro
