I just got my DVX100 two days ago and while playing with the controls in the 30p mode to get to closely match my VX2000 in color saturation I started getting this weird thing happening. The unit makes a weird clicking sound while flickering on and off

It does not look good, but maybe if you whacked out the autoiris adjustment you could create this effect.

Reset all you settings to factory defaults (check manual for quick way to do this) and see if the problem continues.

stephen I have got a question for you,
the pal and ntsc version are different specially shooting in progressive mode.
there is no advanced etc...Can you tell me why? also why is the ntsc version 24p and the pal version 25P(i think because of the pal 50 shutterspeed video) but why 24p then for ntsc? Also i noticed that the pal version is able to go to +18 db...

I think the differences between the NTSC and PAL versions are more about marketing and costs rather than engineering.

There are some older threads here and other DVX100 forums that talk about the issue, but I think they felt 25P was close enough to 24p and made the electronics simpler.

Plus, the pulldown was designed for easy integration with NTSC, I assume additional engineering would have been needed for PAL pulldown schemes, though I don't know much about PAL.

You might creating a post here for one of the Panasonic reps to get the "official answer".

The 24 P and 25 P has a very easy maths answer.

It is mathematically very difficult to achieve 24 from 50hz unlike to obtain 24 from 30 one will just need to use 4 frames out of 5 in 60i to acheive. In order to acheive 24 out of 25 one has to obtain 24 frame out of 25 which is way too big a number for the electronics and on the contrary to obtain 25p out of 50i is so simple.

But the whole 24p idea is based on the assumption that you are shooting like film. It does not work for PAL because it is 25p and 25p just isnt the same" field" rate as film. So i am inclined to think that its also a lot of a marketing question:" he everybody likes the way film is constructed, for ntsc we can keep up the story because 24 fits in really nice with 30 but for PAL we dont care"...

It is not completely useless with 25p at least it will fit well with broadcast in PAL countries. When convert to film we will need to omit 1 out of 25 frames mechanically just like what it used to be.
