UPDATE on my DVX100's head "problem"

Well I got the 20 MQ tapes today (ordered from TapeStockOnline.com). I promptly powered up the camera and unwrapped the head-cleaner to use for the first time. Ran it for 10 seconds like they said, popped an MQ tape in and began recording.

So far so good! I watched all of the 3 minutes or so I shot and not a hint of a graphical artifact/video dropout. Granted it very well might have been the tape that was going screwy and all I need to do is start shooting with a new tape- but I figured I'd switch to a better tape stock while I was at it. Goodbye Sony Tapes!
I'll have to do more extensive shooting/experimenting before I bring my DVX to the next wedding shoot- I can't afford to lose any footage on a paid gig like that.

I did notice one oddity, however, if you even wanna call it that. While I'm playing back footage I just shot and reviewing it in the LCD....if I hit fast-forward or rewind (whithout hitting stop first) the picture becomes blocky. I know that is normal for cuing an reviewing DV tapes but mine exibits horizontal bars (3 of them) in which you can see the shot I last was viewing before hitting rewind. For example if I was shooting a green wall then shot a red wall...If I was watching the footage of the red wall and hit rewind while it was playing there'd be horizontal "red" bars (showing the last frame of the red footage) even when it's far into rewinding into the green wall footage. Does anyone elses DVX do this while cuing and reviewing?

Hi Glen--Occaisonally mine does something similar, though I don't know why.

Hmm, mine seems to do it anytime I rewind or ff. Hopefully it's supposed to do that- I'll have to keep an eye on it.
