DVX100 Lowest current UK price?
 

Hi there,

I have been extremely tempted to buy the DVX100, but have been somewhat put off by the hefty UK price (lowest price I've seen is £3195.00 (inc. VAT) at http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/).

I must admit that for such an apparently popular camera, I haven't seen this model released by many companies over here yet.

I currently own a XL1S, and I realise that this wouldn't be a MAJOR upgrade, but I would be using the camera exclusively for filmmaking and therefore the progressive mode sounds ideal. With the original resolution being higher, AND lost resolution being reduced (as with the Frame Mode), plus the XLR input, it sounds like this is really the highest quality I can get in this particular price bracket.

Therefore, with the site I mentioned offering to match the lowest prices elsewhere, I was wondering if anyone was aware of a company offering the PAL version any cheaper!!

It really is a good price!!! I imagine that to buy it from over here, hidden charges would be involved such as Customs import duty and international Shipping.

With all this factored in, I wonder whether the total cost would still be anywhere near so cheap?

Also, if the camera goes wrong and needs replacing etc, Singapore is a long way away!

Not only would you have to add Customs and Excise and shipping, but also VAT (which would be payable on the item as well as shipping). It would probably be cheaper to buy in the UK.

I dunno about all the UK stuff, i got one from there. It cost me %10 in taxes and $50 to ship. I purchased a 2 year international warranty with it which was around $100.

So all in all, i saved around $2000 off the local price.

So it was good for me.

I bought mine from Expandore Enterprise (www.expandore.com), for $3230 including shipping, and I see they have it listed for US$3150 (€2760) now. They can probably give you a really good deal with DHL shipping to your doorstep. Of course taxes will be added when importing to UK though.

The UK (apart from the PAL resolution and frame rate benefits) does not appear to be a cost-friendly place to be a DV Camcorder customer!!!

Even if I part/exchange my Canon XL1-S (plus £250 Hard Case), I'd still have to part with an additional £1821.25 (inc VAT) to buy a DVX100!!!

I don't think I can justify that as the XL1-S is practically unused as yet, I guess I'll just have to stick with the good 'ol 'Frame mode' for now, or use the interlaced mode and convert it later.

It's just a bit frustrating that everyone else in the world seems to be able to get the DVX100 for about £2000 worth, and I was hoping that part-exchange included, I'd only be looking at a few hundred pounds to upgrade.

Oh, well! I'll get on with the XL1-S and start saving the pennies. Roll on XL2!!!

Try Kamla in the Tottenham Court Road. I got mine for £2,650.

Kamla are pretty good. That's where I got my D30.

My XL1s came at a good price from AskDirect, but they don'r stock the DVX-100.

I bought mine from a UK company called Top Teks (for £2,650 + VAT). They have it on offer at the moment for £2,400 + VAT.

Maybe there is stronger representation for the DVX100 in the UK after all. Those prices are pretty darned good, though the "Top Techs" web address link suggests that they sell 2nd hand cameras.
